Just released a new update to the InDesign Imposition Plugin with several improvements focused on speed, usability, and flexibility.
This update includes gutters, page range support, automatic page filling, and performance improvements.
Below is a quick overview of what’s new.
1. Gutters Between Imposed Pages
One of the most requested features is now available: gutters between imposed pages.
Previously, the spacing between imposed pages was controlled indirectly using bleed settings in the original document.
Now you can simply specify a gutter value directly in the plugin.
Note: Spreads currently does not support custom gutters.
Example
If you impose business cards:
| Gutter | Result |
|---|---|
| 0 mm | pages touch each other |
| 2 mm | small space between cards |
| 5 mm | larger space for easier cutting |
This makes it much easier to prepare jobs that require cutting tolerance or trimming space.
How to Use Gutters
You can now control the spacing between imposed pages directly in the plugin.
Options
| Input | Result |
|---|---|
| (blank) | behaves as before — the document bleed determines the gutter |
| 0 mm or 0 pt | no gutter — pages are placed with one cut between them |
| 5 mm or 0.25 in | adds a uniform gutter between all pages |
| 2 mm, 5 mm | specify different vertical and horizontal gutters |
Examples
| Input | Result |
|---|---|
0mm |
pages touch — one cut between pages |
3mm |
3 mm gap between all imposed pages |
2mm,5mm |
2 mm horizontal gutter, 5 mm vertical gutter |
2. Page Range Support
You can now impose only selected pages of your document.
This is useful when:
- testing an imposition setup
- reprinting only certain pages
- creating proof sheets
-
imposing a section of a large document
Example page ranges
1-8
5-20
1-10,15-18
The plugin will only impose the pages specified.
3. Automatic Filling of the Last Page

Previously, if the page count didn’t match the imposition layout exactly, the plugin could stop with an error.
Now the plugin will automatically fill the last sheet so the imposition completes correctly.
Example:
| Layout | Pages | Result |
|---|---|---|
| 8-up | 24 pages | 3 full sheets |
| 8-up | 22 pages | last sheet auto-filled |
This makes it much easier to work with real-world documents that don’t perfectly match the layout.
4. Faster Imposition
This release also includes performance improvements.
Large documents now impose faster, especially when working with:
- multi-page booklets
- step-and-repeat layouts
- high page counts
Speed improvements are most noticeable on documents with 50+ pages.
5. No More Progress Bars and Screen Flicker

Another usability improvement: progress bars and screen flickering have been removed.
Previously, when placing many pages, InDesign could display repeated progress dialogs that prevented you from doing other work.
The plugin now runs much more smoothly, allowing you to continue working while the imposition completes.
Why These Changes Matter
Our goal has always been to create professional imposition tools that are simple and affordable.
The InDesign Imposition Plugin can handle everything from:
- business cards
- step-and-repeat layouts
- saddle-stitch booklets
- large multi-page publications
— while remaining easy to use in a production environment.
